Checking Account Switch Kit

We know that it can seem like a hassle to switch your main checking account to a new financial institution, so we have outlined steps to help make your switch to an AHFCU checking account as seamless and hassle-free as possible.

Step 1: Open an AHFCU Checking Account (if you haven't already)

  • Members who would like to open an AHFCU Checking Account should call (562) 933-0370 or stop by one of our branches.

Step 2: Prepare to Switch

Move your direct deposit(s)
If your employer is sending your paycheck directly to your current checking account (or a savings account) at another institution, request a direct deposit form from your human resource or personnel department. If a form isn't provided by your employer use our Direct Deposit Form to notify your employer to begin sending your paycheck directly to your credit union. If you receive other types of direct deposit such as Social Security or retirement benefits, contact these institutions directly.

Switch Your Automatic Payments
Determine how many outstanding checks and automatic drafts have not cleared your account. Make sure you leave enough money in your account to cover these items. List all your recurring automatic drafts, account transfers, and bill payments.
Before you transfer funds, make sure you've made the necessary deposits to cover drafts in your new AHFCU Checking Account. Update any auto payments with your new AHFCU checking account information by going to the companies website, over the phone, or in person. You can also use an Automatic Payment Form to contact each organization about your changes.

Step 3: Close Your Old Checking

Follow up with your old financial institution
Make sure everything has cleared your old account and all of your direct deposits and automatic drafts are coming through your AHFCU checking account properly. When everything has cleared your account inform your old financial institution that you would like to close your account. You can do this by completing the Close Account Form.
While we offer forms to assist in the process of switching your checking accounts, we cannot guarantee that the form letters we have provided will be honored by the receiving party. Please continue to monitor your accounts until you have been able to verify that your instructions have been carried out.
If you have any questions, or need assistance, please call us at (562) 933-0370 or stop by one of our branches.
